. Laurence Corns - Guitar, vocals. Laurence is a singer guitarist playing swing jazz influenced by the likes of Fats Waller, Billie Holiday, Nat King Cole and Bessie Smith. He has been involved with The Sunshine Kings for many years now, as well as performing with Graham Hughes in many other configurations (not least “The Candid Jug Orange Band”, Laurence’s own band, as well as The Lapazoos. Laurence studied ethnomusciology at London’s School of Oriental and African Studies, he learnt about jazz playing with the cult swing jazz band ‘The Lost and Wandering Blues and Jazz Band’. He has performed everywhere from the streets of Paris, to small rural villages in Northern Zimbabwe and his blend of blues, swing and African music is unique to the London Jazz scene. He spent two and a half years in France working with New York jazz singer Madeleine Peyroux. He works in styles as diverse as Greek Rebetiko, Indian Classical and Nigerian Afrobeat. He was musical Director on The National Theatre Production of Fela! which has led him in-too much work for theatre and some television. He has worked with New Orleans traditional jazz maestro Graham Hughes for around 10 years.
