Band Info

Don Smith – Double bass and sousaphone – I started playing bass in 1951 whilst in the RAF. Upon demob I joined the Phoenix Jazz Band which was formed of half of the Crane River Band that was in 1953. In 1956 I joined The Mike Daniels Delta Jazzmen and have played with Mike ever since, in both the ‘Small Band’ and the ‘Big Band’ (16 piece). It was in 1956 that I attempted the sousaphone and am still trying.
