Band Info
John Whitehead – Cornet. Founder member of the Frog Island Jazz Band, in 1962. John’s interest in New Orleans Jazz developed whilst playing with friends as a member of a Skiffle Group. Together with a number of like-minded jazz enthusiasts a jazz band was formed which evolved into the Frog Island Jazz Band. John has ably fronted the Frogs for the last 50 years.
In 1966 Bernard Stutt joined the band – under his influence as a dedicated Johnny Dodd’s style clarinet player the band started to concentrate on the Classic Jazz of King Oliver’s Creole jazz Band. Jelly Roll Morton Red Hot Peppers, The New Orleans Wanderers which with the addition of a number of other bands including Clarence Williams, Armand J Piron, Papa Celestin from the golden era of jazz form the bands repertoire to the current day.
