Band Info

The Sunshine Kings are led by Graham Hughes on the trombone and vocals (with the odd feature on chromatic harmonica by request!). Graham works with many of the most respected jazz musicians in the UK and often appears as a featured guest at festivals.

He formed The Sunshine Kings for an appearance at a jazz club in London in 2009, choosing a group of musicians from around London who were at the time little known on the traditional jazz scene. Word spread from this and they soon appeared at other jazz clubs and events, and at festivals across the UK. Members of the band have come and gone, but Graham is well placed to take advantage of the thriving vintage jazz scene in London with so many fabulous players that have appeared in recent years.

Graham has transcribed versions of interesting songs played by bands of the 1920’s and 30’s, written his own arrangements of popular numbers, and even composed one or two original numbers of his own for the band. Variety is the spice of life, and The Sunshine Kings takes this mantra on board with their performances, filling the music with freshness and fun.
