The Savoy Super Six
The band was originally formed in 1959 by trombonist Barry Palser (1936-2020). Nowadays the enjoyment of ‘making music’ is still evident in their performance but they now know the value of entertainment. They know that people do come just to see them, do listen and do dance. ‘The punter’ is very aware and is very important. During the six decades they have made 5 LP records, 3 CD’s 2 Videos 3 National broadcasts, five TV appearances and have played at festivals in Holland, Germany, Italy, France, Belgium and Eire. They have also appeared at festivals in the U.K. including Bude, Upton, Caister, Hemsby, Pakefield, Prestatyn and Osmington Bay. Barry has composed three jazz tunes for ‘Jazz in Duketown’, ‘The Herborn Sommerfest’ and ‘Symbio Microbiology Co’ (all of these can be heard on the ‘More’ album). The personnel have naturally changed over the years but Barry Palser’s ethos and style are continued to this day in the current band, led by trumpeter Pete Rudeforth who played alongside Barry for many years.
