Band Profile
Band Info
The New Orleans Z’Hulus from Belgium. The band was created, late at night by a bunch of boozers in a smoky bar, which explains its funny name. It started as a 6piece band, without trombone, but soon became a group that could perform either with 5, 6 or 7 musicians. The New Orleans Z’Hulus was always a very international unit featuring Belgium, Dutch, English and French top musicians. They are very popular in the jazz clubs from those countries, but also participated at great jazz festivals, including Breda, Nice, Mortegliano in Italy Sancy Snow in France, Hayling Island, just to name a few. They also toured with Tommy Sancton and Wendell Brunious recently, and most of them played and recorded extensively with a lot of New Orleans Greats during the 60’s and 70’s. The actual band presents Dan Vercruysse on trumpet, and Phillippe De Smet trombone, representing Belgium, Albion natives John Defferray reeds and Brian Turnock bass, Dutch piano player Emile Van Pelt, drums to be advised.
