Terry was born in Kensington, London in 1941 and was fortunate to have a musical father who encouraged him at an early age to take up the clarinet. He appreciates a wide variety of music, with particular fondness for George Lewis and Bunk Johnson as well as "Jelly Roll" Morton, King Oliver, Johnny Hodges and Benny Carter. Terry has played with many bands and led his own quartet on the Continet. He is well respected and liked for his unassuming manner, understands the clarinet's roll in New Orleans ensemble and his lyrical style fits the band perfectly.
